Throwing a kids’ birthday party can feel like a second job — the planning, the food, the games, the clear-up, and the quiet dread that either nobody turns up or everybody does. This is the calm version: how to plan a brilliant dinosaur party without losing your weekend, whether you do it at home or let someone else do the running around.
Start with three decisions
Get these straight and the rest falls into place.
- How many children? A rough rule: the birthday child’s age plus one or two, or the whole class if you’d rather not choose. More isn’t always merrier — a smaller group is cheaper, calmer and often more fun.
- Your budget. Be honest up front. A home party is cheaper but you provide the time, the food and the energy; a venue costs more but takes the work — and the mess — off your hands.
- Home or venue? At home you’ve got full control and low cost, but you’re host, caterer and cleaner all day. At a venue, someone else runs the show and you actually get to enjoy your child’s birthday. Neither’s wrong — it depends on the day you want.
The dinosaur theme, done well (and cheaply)
You don’t need to spend a fortune to make it feel special.
- Food: dino-shaped sandwiches (a cutter’s a couple of pounds), green ‘swamp’ jelly, ‘fossil’ biscuits, and fruit ‘dino eggs’. Keep it beige-friendly — small children are not adventurous eaters.
- Games: pin-the-spikes-on-the-Stegosaurus, a dinosaur egg hunt in the garden, and ‘don’t wake the T-Rex’ (musical statues with a roar). Free, and they burn energy.
- Party bags: one small dino figure, a sticker sheet and a fossil sweet beats a bag of plastic that’s in the bin by bedtime.
The easy option: a party at Mighty Adventures
If you’d rather not turn your kitchen into a swamp, this is the lift-and-shift version. You get our dinosaur adventure-golf course plus a private party area, a party host to run the session, pizza for the table, and a couple of hours of sorted entertainment — you turn up, we do the rest, and there’s nothing to clean up afterwards. A stress-free countdown
- 4 weeks out: lock the date, choose home-or-venue (and book the venue or package), send the invites.
- 2 weeks out: chase the RSVPs, confirm numbers, and note any allergies or dietary needs.
- 1 week out: sort the cake, the party bags and the birthday outfit.
- On the day: if you’re at a venue, the only job left is to turn up and enjoy it.
